Cambridge STIMULUS is a community service programme, giving university students the opportunity to work regularly with pupils in local schools, assisting experienced teachers for a couple of hours a week.
Volunteers normally help the same class(es) each week so that they get to know the pupils. They provide valuable support, giving many youngsters more individual help and attention than teachers are able to give on their own.
Volunteers can work with primary or secondary pupils. The subjects are usually Science, Mathematics, Information Communication Technology (ICT) or Technology, but other subjects are possible, and primary school placements often involve a range of subjects. As well as supporting the work of class teachers by helping individuals and small groups, volunteers wishing to do so may plan and carry out short practical projects with groups of pupils.
Students who wish to participate this can apply by completing the on-line application form by midnight on Friday 25th January. This is available at http://www.stimulus.ucam.org/njoin.html
All details of placements will be given at the STIMULUS introductory sessions during the week of Monday 28th January and school visits will start during the following week. All volunteers need to fill in a CRB form or show a current one to the coordinator to see if it is acceptable.
