‘Rock The House’ Parliamentary competition

As your local MP, I wanted to let you know about a very exciting opportunity which may be of interest to students at your College, in particular those that have a keen interest in making music and the performing arts.

‘Rock The House’ is a Parliamentary competition which is now in its third year and was founded to raise awareness of intellectual property rights and live music issues. The competition has captured the imagination of the wider music industry and is supported by Patrons including Brian May, Alice Cooper, and Bernie Marsden from Whitesnake to name just a few.

There are six categories in the competition: best solo act under 19, best band under 19, best solo act, best band, best music video and best small venue.

I am urging musicians across the city to apply, so that I can put forward entries for the competition. I will be asked to nominate one entry per category.

Nominations for me to consider must be made by March 1st 2013, from which up to six entrants will be chosen. After this, a judging panel made of international music industry experts will chose the finalists, who will then compete in a live battle of the bands. The winner of Best Band and best Solo Artist category will then perform live on the terrace of the House of Commons on the evening of the 26th of June.

I have attached a poster which you may wish to use to publicise the competition. I hope that this is something you will be able to pass on to your fellow students and encourage them to participate in. It would be fantastic if we had talent from Cambridge representing us at the live final!
