Maths teaching post at the London Academy of Excellence

LAE is a brand new sixth form in Newham, East London, right next to Stratford station and the Olympic Park.

We opened in September 2012 in a newly refurbished building; this coming September we will have 420 sixthformers in Years 12 and 13. We are an academically-focused sixth form for high-achieving and aspirational young people from very disadvantaged backgrounds (Newham is the sixth most deprived borough in the UK) who want to prepare themselves to make successful applications to the best universities, and to go from there into the top professions. We only teach A-levels recommended by the Russell Group universities, and Maths is very popular: in Year 12 at the moment, 128 sixthformers study Maths and another 31 study Further Maths.

LAE fosters aspiration, nurtures hard work and develops life skills. We offer: excellent teaching which enables the sixthformers to embed the knowledge and develop the skills they will need to achieve highly; a full school day that maximises contact time between teachers and sixthformers; a rich and varied programme of extra-curricular activities and Academic Societies that broadens horizons and nurtures new enthusiasms; one afternoon each week dedicated to Sport, and a similar time period one morning each week for OutReach community service – activities that give the sixthformers opportunities for meaningful leadership and genuine responsibility. LAE’s vision is to increase dramatically the number of successful applications made to top universities by sixthformers from East London; simple but transformational.

I am looking for two ambitious and well-qualified graduates to join the Mathematics Department in September. You’ll be teaching interesting Maths to lots of ambitious and high-achieving sixthformers. I want to appoint intelligent, imaginative Maths graduates who are looking for a stimulating and hugely rewarding job: teach Maths at the LAE and you will, quite simply, help change these sixthformers’ lives.

You don’t have to have a teaching qualification. We will give you all the training and support you need to become an outstanding teacher, and if you want, you can get a Maths teaching qualification later. The starting salary will be at least £28,000.
