Film Tuesday: “Empire of the Sun” (1987)

The film for Tuesday 15 October will be “Empire of the Sun” (1987).

From the autobiographically-based novel by J. G. Ballard, this is the story of a British boy stranded in Shanghai during World War Two, forced to grow up amidst the horrors of the surrounding war. It stars young Christian Bale, along with John Malcovich, Miranda Richardson, and Nigel Havers. This is sometimes regarded as Director Steven Spielberg’s first serious film. The script was by Tom Stoppard. It is thought to have
been much underrated.

All are welcome to attend at any time. But please let us know if you think you might also want to get involved in showing some of the films. It is a fun way to explore your interests and share them with others.

We start at 8pm in the Pfeiffer Room. We hope to see you there.
