Film: “The Mole” (El Topo)

The Mole is the first major cinematographic success of director and “psychomagician” Alejandro Jodorowsky. The film tells a surreal story of love and redemption of a father (El Topo) and his son in a formative journey through the desert. They meet The Colonel and his gang, who have terrorised locals, including a monastery. El Topo declares himself to be God; he castrates The Colonel and executes his men. Leaving his son with the monks, El Topo sets off with The Colonel’s mistress, Mara, who challenges him to prove himself by conquering the four Masters who inhabit the desert.
Definitely one of the most astonishing films of the seventies, it will be the second session on Jodorowsky’s filmography.
