This weekly email draws attention to college events and activities. Over the next couple of weeks we focus mainly on start of term welcome events.
Subject Receptions
Our subject welcome receptions begin w/c 6th Oct. These give new students a chance to meet each other, as well as get to know senior college members and DOS. We hope these events will help towards fostering a greater sense of community and support for new students at Hughes during this challenging time.

Navigating the Cambridge System: A guide for new undergraduates
October 5 @ 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm
New to Cambridge and Hughes Hall? Join our online introductory session aimed at new undergraduate students to find out how to navigate the sometimes, complex Cambridge system and to get the most out of Cambridge. A pre workshop presentation will be uploaded to Moodle prior to the session and will cover: * Bridging the gap: making the transition to University level study, * Accessing advice and support: who, what and where.
A live Q&A session will help to answer any questions you have about the Cambridge education system and how it works. Find out more »
Whisky Tasting (Event open to HH postdocs only)
October 8 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
A special event for Hughes Hall postdocs. This event is hosted by Forbes whisky writer, author, and World Whisky Awards judge Felipe Schrieberg. If any postdocs would like to chat, a separate Zoom call will be open from 6.30 pm, and again after the tasting. Find out more »
Family Welcome

Join us online for our Hughes Hall Student Family Welcome. This event is open to all, but will be of particular interest to newly arrived Hughes Hall students, seniors and staff with families and partners. Meet some of our senior members who will be happy to answer questions about settling into Cambridge with a family or partner, and the many opportunities available to get involved in local activities – both educational and social.
